I’ve gone commercial. Or I’m at least sort of trying to do a little commercialization of myself. You’ll notice the new box on the left indicating the book I’m currently reading along with a new link below it, and another in the top navigation, for BOOKS! I’m getting linked up to Amazon with their associate program. I figured it’s just possible that at some point one of you 5 people that read my site will think that something I’m reading looks interesting. Then maybe you’ll think you want to buy said interesting something and I can make a few pennies off it.

Another trick I’m going to try is adding links at the bottom of each entry to the cd where you can find the song that contains the lyric that is the title of the entry. Trying to understand that may be akin to spinning around 20 times and then trying to throw darts. It’ll make sense when you’ve seen it a few times.

Someday I hope to earn enough to be able to purchase another book to add to the list. Until then…

That Don’t Impress Me Much

It’s been a long time since I wrote. A really long time. The kind of long time that makes people stop checking to see if there’s something new posted because nothing new has been posted in such a long time that people can only assume that I witnessed a mob hit and have been whisked away into protective custody until the trial begins when I become an overnight hero/celebrity like Kato during the OJ trial except that I’m intelligent, adorable and endearing which leads to such massive publicity that no amount of cleverness on the part of the FBI will conceal my identity in the witness protection program and they are forced to assign me my own security detail further increasing my mystique and filling my schedule to the point that I no longer have time to write on my overnight smash hit of a website.

Well, that’s not what happened. I’ve just been lazy. There was this wacky hormonal thing which I won’t really discuss in order to avoid an overshare flag and a 10 yard penalty. Then there are always the children bouncing off the walls. They’ve been so rubberized this summer that I finally cracked and bought a “safety harness” for SB. In other words she now wears a leash in public. On top of that I had my fabulous Flag Day party a couple weeks ago that was a smashing success. It’s really just been one thing after another and I’ve been lucky that I managed to do enough laundry to keep us all in clean underwear.

Tonight though, ah… Tonight. I was on top of my game tonight. I grilled up some hot dogs for dinner and while I was at it I threw on some chicken to prepare for tomorrow night’s chicken pasta salad dinner. I got both kids bathed. That’s right, both kids in one night. I folded four loads of laundry. I washed the dishes. And the pinultimate achievement for this evening was scrubbing and sanitizing my kitchen cabinets!

What? They’re white and they were looking dingy. I just couldn’t look at them like that anymore. They’re all sparkly clean now. No crayon or fingerprints or 3 month old food drips. It’s so lovely. I’m so proud of myself. Just don’t look at the floor or you’ll ruin the effect.

Now that I’ve accomplished more in 2 hours than I did in the last two weeks I’m going to reward myself by reading a book. In the quiet clean of my kitchen I’ll relax and read. I deserve it.

I Won’t Tell Them Your Name

I finally had enough. SB has now mastered the art of climbing out of her crib as well as scaling the side and wiggling back into it. This weekend she’s out of there. I’ve been assured that she won’t hurt herself but visions of her tumbling down onto her head have been assailing me and I just can’t take a chance. PK never climbed out of her crib. She was too smart. She knew that all she had to do was yell loud enough and someone would come get her. Of course we lived with my family and they were suckers for her pathetic cries. I’m more hard-nosed about the wailing and can ignore it for longer.

SB has also figured out how to undress herself in a split second and enjoys doing so at the most inopportune times. Like when we’re getting ready to walk out the door in the morning. My personal favorite is when she strips off everything, including diaper, before falling asleep at night. I do a load of laundry every morning lately and I don’t like it. It’s just unnecessary. Tonight I stole a page from my mother’s Big Book of Parenting and wrapped the diaper in duct tape. It took the child a moment to realize what was happening but once she did the howls that emanated from her tiny frame must have woken the dead. She was furious. But I don’t have to do laundry in the morning so I don’t care.

The older SB gets the more fierce she becomes. Some days she’s a wild beast tearing through the house. PK has learned to fear her. On Sunday she actually locked herself in her room and asked me not to tell PK where she was. Who could blame her though after she took a full cuppie to the back of the head and was bitten 4 times. SB needs to go on a leash and PK needs to learn to duck and run. Who would have thought that a miniature 2 year-old would instill so much fear her sister who is six years her senior.

PK actually has the patience of a saint. She loves SB no matter how much of a terror she’s being. When PK crawls into bed at night SB goes running to jump in and cuddle with her. And PK welcomes her. Then they both smile with their angelic faces beaming up at me and no matter how long or rough my day was it just melts away. They are my light and my laughter.
