Nudity

I’m starting to understand the appeal.  Not that I didn’t understand a certain charm it held in particular circumstances, but overall I never found the idea of nakedness to be particularly attractive.  What’s changed my perspective isn’t a sudden epiphany that will change the course of my life but more a constant nudging from countless hours of drudgery which goes by the name of Laundry.

Laundry and I have not been getting along lately.  Everytime I think I’m finished with Laundry I find it has somehow reproduced itself.  Laundry is worse than bunnies.  Laundry is the houseguest that never leaves.  Laundry is more dogged than a telemarketer.  The things in life that are certain should be death, taxes and Laundry.  Unless you’re a nudist.

In a house of five people and one dog I do at least two loads of laundry daily.  At least.  If all or some or even just one of us has gone out of town for the weekend, or just a sleepover at a friend’s house, that easily doubles.  Sometimes when I’m feeling super industrious I get the idea that I will get all the Laundry done in one day so I won’t have to deal with it cluttering up my floor.  On days like that I end up doing five and sometimes six loads.  That’s a lot of Laundry.  Once that last load has been scooped up and tossed into the washer there is that feeling of relief and accomplishment.  I feel super and even superior because I have conquered the Laundry.  Then someone takes off their socks.

The only cure for Laundry is nudity.  What isn’t worn doesn’t need to be washed.  Except curtains on occasion.  Bedsheets and blankets too but weekly is fine for those.  And towels. FRICK!!!

Okay, the cure for Laundry is nudity, vertical blinds, beds of straw and drip drying.  Like I said: death, taxes and Laundry.

New Blog Engine!

As promised, I’ve upgraded from Movable Type to Wordpress.  Things are still very fluid and nothing is even close to the way I want it, but at least it works properly.  Over the next couple weeks I’ll be making changes to the layout and graphics of the page, adding new widgets, replacing some blah pages and updating some painfully old ones.  Eventually I hope to even start writing some interesting posts.  Let me know what you think!

Comments Fixed!

One of the things that happens when you stop blogging for two and a half years is that your software gets old and out of date. While my dear husband has continued updating the server that this site resides on, I didn’t update anything on the site itself and that resulted in old code that didn’t work right in the new environment so my spam blocking broke my comments. The fix, sadly, was to remove the spam blocking so my friends (the two or three that still check in here after my long silence) can now post comments but so can the purveyors of mail-order pharmaceuticals.

This should be a short lived problem though as my dear sweet man will be upgrading me to the newest version of WordPress this week. Great new things are near.

How cool is this?

So cool!

I’m with the family in Michigan for the weekend and my FIL was showing us his new toy. He recently got a Toshiba network for using at home to check his email and do some minor web surfing. He added on an AT&T wireless connect card to use when he’s on the road and when he saw me salivating over this nifty gadget he graciously handed it to me to play with. We’re now cruising down an expressway heading for brunch with some extended family and I’m blogging.

It’s pretty nice little machine. The keys are standard size and although the keyboard is cramped on the non-alphabetical keys, everything is in the usual place so there’s no searching for arrows or function keys. The touchpad is also a reasonable size but its location leaves a bit desired. It’s so close to the space bar that I’ve already brushed it with my hand several times while typing which results in my cursor jumping to the wrong position. The screen, which is hyped as being large, is 10.2″ but what they don’t explain is that the diagonal dimension is achieved with a fairly wide screen that is quite short. When IE is opened the program header takes up about 25% of the screen height.

Overall this is a pretty good little machine. If I find out that I can use it to comfortably read ebooks I may end up putting my $300 into this rather than a Kindle or Sony e-Reader.

Having a day

I’m done for the day. It’s only 7:30, none of the kids are in bed and all of them still need someone to do “stuff” for them. Busy B needs to nurse, PK needs homework help and SB (who probably needs a new moniker since she’s in first grade now) needs a cattle prod to get her into pjs followed by a chapter of her book. I’m done anyway.

This morning I found a sandwich in PK’s bag that had been there for a minimum of 3 weeks and was growing mold on its mold. B threw my cell phone in the diaper pail. I spent an hour and a half shopping for dress pants for DH. (Do petite stores for men exist?) I’ve had to make apologetic calls to a neighbor for a rude daughter, fight with another daughter about the important of eating regularly and changed too many poopy diapers. I’m done.

All I want to do for the rest of the night is relax my butt into the couch with a glass of wine, a book and some ear plugs. I’m wondering if there’s an odds maker out there that can come up with some numbers telling me how likely is the success of that scenario.
